Your Turf in Your City

YourTurf can help rethink landscape and design in city planning because YourTurf is great for the environment and a long-term, low-cost, water saving alternative to natural grass. As water droughts become an increasingly large and recurring problem across California, municipalities are not only looking to save water but also to cut costs and do good by the environment.

A concern of many municipalities and their residents is the safety of turf for children and for schools. In fact, at the recent Green California Schools Summit in Anaheim, California schools expressed an interest in 'going green' by revamping landscape and design. YourTurf uses rubber from high-grade recycled tires, which is cryogenically frozen, and then pressed and sealed-- a process that removes mist impurities, including the lead. Since the rubber is sealed it does not leave black marks on clothing or skin. YourTurf is able to stand strong behind its products with assurances from reputable institutions such as The Center for Disease Control (CDC) which concludes that "There is no indication that exposure to the turf could pose any harm. We are not recommending that communities shut down their playing fields."

Also, cities are realizing that by a single-family residence replacing their lawn with YourTurf, they can save 30,000 to 56,000 gallons of water per year. Replacing large public lawns areas would result in hundreds of thousands of water savings per annum. Saving water means saving money in cities such as Anaheim but also in Los Angeles County. Speaking on the current and potential water shortages, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said, "The vast majority of people will actually save money if they comply to reduce their water use.

In most metro and urban cities, smog and chemical in the air are an enormous problem. YourTurf synthetic grass eliminates the need for most herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides-- eight billion pounds of these harmful chemicals are used each year in natural grass fields. YourTurf synthetic grass begins as recycled plastic pellets, which are then transformed into grass-like fibers. Additionally, YourTurf's backing is largely soy-based, rather than the toxic chemical urethane backing most other turf companies use.

One soccer or football field of synthetic turf requires around 100 tons of rubber, an amount that can be replaced with recycled rubber from about 22,000 old car tires. But YourTurf isn't just great for municipal recreation areas and parks, it's a great alternative for natural grass anywhere in a municipality: shopping centers, city buildings, apartment and condominium communities, highway medians, and medians along city roads and streets. In fact, many cities across Southern California have already realized and are currently experiencing the money saving and pro-environmental effects of YourTurf. These cities include Anaheim, Calabasas, Costa Mesa, El Monte, Fontana, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, San Clemente, San Gabriel, San Juan Capistrano, and Westminster.
